Default Cordless Phone/Answering Machine Recommendation

My old cordless phone died, and I have been going crazy trying to find a good replacement. My requirements are: two way communication between the base and the handset (intercom), caller ID for call waiting, digital answering machine, and above all good sound quality. I have tried several phones including GE, Vtech, and Sony - all 2.4 Ghz digital spread spectrum and the sound quality has been poor on all of them, so I returned them. My latest is a Panasonic which has all of the features I want and sounds good on my end, but people on the other end of the line tell me it sounds like I am talking in a well. Other than that, I love this one. It's sad that these state of the art phones have much worse sound quality than my old (pre-900 MHz) BellSouth phone.

Any recommendations?

I was going to recommend the Panasonic, but you didn't like it. We have about 10 of the Panasonics here at work and I have never heard of the problem you are decribing. When I used to have a house phone, I had the Sony. I had problems with my base being too close to electrical appliances and plugins. After moving it, all my static/low volume problems disappeared. Maybe that is what you are expieriencing?

If you want to go for the pimp effect I would try Bang & Olufsen's BeoCom 6000. Probably doesn't meet your requirement but boy does it look sharp.

The phone isn't near anything. I don't have any problems with static - the phone is very clear on my end. That's what makes me mad - it's a great phone exept for the sound quality of my voice on the other end.

I can see why you would be frustrated. I would be too. Good luck!
