I'm a designer (architect) with a real bone to pick with people who design packaging in the US. I HATE trying to open products packaged for display with hard plastic you have to open with a chainsaw! And trying to open some cereal packaging first thing in the morning is enough to set you off for the rest of the day!

With all the technology and inovation we have in this country you'd think the buyer-friendly packaging would be a no brainer!

Sorry for the rant. Let me know if I can help.

I operate a small, international award winning industrial design firm. We have also done packaging for Fortune 500 companies. "Economical"...lets talk.

We're using Whipsaw (http://www.whipsawinc.com) they're great, but not cheap. (but I suspect retail packaging will be cheaper than products design)
