One of the best books I've read recently was "The Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett. It's almost right at 1000 pages, but I couldn't put it down. I just finished "As the Crow Flies" by Jeffery Archer, also very good. Currently reading "A Dangerous Fortune," also by Ken Follett.

All time favorites have the be the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. I also enjoyed the Harry Potter series, there's nothing laughable there... they are excellent books.

I've been re-reading my John D. MacDonald books, which I hadn't seen since I packed them in boxes fifteen years ago.

I started with the Travis McGee series, and I'm up to book 12 of 21 at the moment.

Also, within the past couple of weeks:

The Gold-Plated Porsche: How I sank a small fortune into a used car, and other misadventures - Stephan Wilkinson

Now, discover your strengths - Marcus Buckingham, Donald O. Clifton

Snake Bit: Carroll Shelby's Controversial Series 1 Sports Car - Eric Davison, David E. Davis

Honda S2000 - Daniel F. Carney

The Dark Tower VII - Stephen King

Lever Action: Essays on Liberty - L. Neil Smith

The Power of One - Bryce Courtenay (incredible book of a white child overcoming adversity in South Africa)

Ishmael - Daniel Quinn (wow, reading this really opened my eyes of what people really are)

Anything by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Probably most famous for The Relic and Reliquary, Cabinet of Curiousities, and most recently (and highly anticipated arrival) Brimstone. I love those books...

Currently reading three books...

Thr3e (cant remember the author's name)
Deisgner Knockoff by Ellen Byerrum (new author just released her first book in August of 03... easy light reading... book fits in the purse!)
Sydney Sheldon's newest one and I can't even remember what that title is...

Favorites were like vader1... Where the Red Fern Grows... (my Mum read this to me when I was really young *tears*), more recently, Princess Bride, not Morgenstein's version, but the newer edited one the movie is based on

Best of all time... If Tomorrow Comes by Sidney Sheldon. Read this about eight times... have about five copies of it, because I can't resist it when I see it in a thrift shop...

Excellent topic, Naomi!
