Default Hit and Run, what to do?

My wife's car was hit at our apartment building's parking lot the other night, it did some serious body damage to the rear panel. We know it was between the ours of 6pm and 8 am the next day, however our building has open parking and everyone basically parks in a different spot each time.

An officer did an Accident Information Exhange with my wife while I went to work. I however think I know who did it, Or at least the vehicle that caused the damage. This vehicle shows a damage mark to the rear corner of the bumper at a height (it had to be a truck it was so high) that makes sense. I think I know the guy who owns the vehicle, though im not 100% positive, and I have seen him walking around the building drunk at times.

I am wandering what options I have here, the deductible is $500, which I don't have right now, should I call the police again, will the damage on his car be enough evidence for the police to at least question him? Should I confront the guy When i see him?

You need to contact the police again and give them a description of the truck as well as tag. I doubt they'll do a paint analysis, but can use basic deductions to include in the narrative section of the p/r. This will be useful when either filing through the other party's insurance carrier or having your carrier subrogate them. Contact your insurer and discuss your options. I'm not sure of the laws in IN.

Follow the story. The only "evidence" is the OP's opinion of who caused the damage.

my wife just called she was leaving to go return some movies, and there was a repo man out there repossessing the same truck i believe did the damage, i got a picture of the license plate of the truck before they took it.

so chances are this guy has no insurance either, if he isn't making his truck payment

I had something similar happen. I saw someone hit my car from my window and their front license plate screws dug into my rear plastic bumper leaving an impression in the plastic. After trying to get the police to come out, they questioned the individual and seeing that his license plate screws were a perfect match to the damage, claimed ignorance and said I probably backed into his car. Insurance says"We can put it on you collision policy". Great and then I have to pay the deductable anyway.

I feel for ya, but don't expect anything good to come out of it.
