Need help with computer.

I know there is an electronics section but it has not been posted in for about 2 weeks. My computer just randomly restarted and now when I try to restart it, windows will not reboot.

I took it and used compressed air to clean out all the dust everywhere in case the dust was causing it to over heat and still nothing. I also reinstalled the ram and made sure everything was plugged in properly.

I have to get this thing fixed asap as I have a lot of essays for school on it and I have another essay due Wednesday.

Any help is appreciated.

Fastest way is have a tech come over or pull your hard drive and plug it into another computer. See if you can access the hard drive and pull your essay from it.

Or buy an external drive reader and put your drive into it... and plug it into a school computer.

:iagree:

The catch here is whether the failure is with the HDD or the motherboard. Given the failure sequence, I'm inclined to guess HDD.

Does the rest of the bootup look okay at the very beginning?

Of course. But if the failure is the hard drive, then there is no quick fix.

I had a computer that was zapped by lightning. Right now Staples is having a tech sale. They replaced my motherboard and archived all my data for $300... and that includes the 1 Terabyte external drive that I had them back up to.

The big question is when you say "it doesn't boot", are you saying it wont load windows, or it wont POST?

If it POSTs but stops when Windows loads and/or it gives an error, it is likely the HDD or the system files are corrupted (which can be easily fixed sometimes).
If it wont POST, it's probably the mobo/ram or something related.

Pull the drive, plug it in another computer and copy the files you need to a flash.

Easiest DIY solution:

External hard drive reader...

I would probably use the computer your posting with instead of school work...and start retyping. Just a thought...

Or maybe you can explain to your professor what happened
