Default Problem with my tax refund

I got my refund back today (in fact it just posted online to my bank), and I noticed that my refund is MORE ($300 more, to be precise) than what I filed for (i.e. if my refund on my 1040 was $100, I got back $400 instead).

What's going on? Should I be concerned? Should I call the IRS?

The only thing I can think of is that last year when I filed taxes for some reason Turbo Tax didn't include my second child in my tax filings (I filed an amendment after realizing the mistake by Turbo Tax), and when I got the tax rebate back, as expected it was short $300 for the second child but I had assumed that was taken care of by my amendment filing (which IRS didn't bother to break down for me when I got some more money back).

The IRS will tell you if you made a mistake and are due additional money. If it just shows up, then either it was an error on their part, or it was from last year.

You're probably right. Second child means $300 more to the tax rebate from last year, so they tacked it on this year. I'll be getting the same thing.

Don't worry, if they made a mistake they'll come get the money.

On a better note, my accountant told me a round number for how much my refund was this year and it was HUGE! Well go to pick up my taxes and his round number was 25% less than the actual number!

If your payments are electronic, you'll get the money before any letter explaining where it came from. I'd just sit on it and see if the IRS sends you anything.

Sell your house and move to a country that has no extridition treaty with the U.S.

Quickly!

you are probably right about the 300$ being missed for the second child since it was based on your previous filing. I helped my friend out with her taxes and since she was claimed by her parents on her previous filing, she didnt get the 600$ stimulus check. However since that was based off her old filing when she filed this year as a dependent she got the $600 for being a dependent all of 2008. So you should be in fine shape.
