Default question about car accidents

what is a car accident defined ? it is obvious when there is major damage or you can see the paint or form of the car has been altered. when people try to parallel park they sometimes hit bumpers, that's not a car accident is it? no paint or car damage. i wanted to know because i stopped at a stop sign and i was waiting for a car to pass before turning, this dick in a van behind me did not pay attention that i had my brakes on and decided to hit my car. there was no damage to my car but i could feel his van push my car and it sounded really bad. since there's no sign of damage from the exterior i guess insurance won't have anything to do with it?

uh you should get your car checked out and yourself... you may not be able to see a problem.. but it is there.

I was in a car accident a few years ago. My mother was driving, my sister was in the passagner seat, and I was in the back. A woman slammed into us from the back. There was barley any damage on the outside, but the car was totalled. My mom didn't go to the doctor until after a month of the accident and now she has major back problems. So do I, but I think it's too late for me to complain. Oh well, we got 3 new cars out of it anyways and the woman had to pay for my mom's doctor bills and stuff... so just make sure you and your car is ok.

a car accident is where something was not planned and it happened.... like for instance.. some dude driving and hits a light post.. THAT is a car accident. no matter if there is ANY damage or not at all. if even if a car just TAPs your car.. its a car accident.. wither you want them to pay or anything.. its up to you. as to your car... get it throughly checked up... cause even if you don't see any damage on the outside.. there maybe damage to the frame stuctrue... believe me.. I know.. =P as for yourself... go to a hospitle... get yourself checked... its the other drivers fault for no paying attention.. why should it be YOU who suffers?

Definintely get the car cheked out. Even though our bumpers can absorb a 5 mph crash, some of the structure that holds the bumper on the car could've been bent or damaged in other ways.

No matter what, if another car so much as taps your bumper, get out, make a scene and call the police to file an accident report. In the past I've had people "tap" me and I often fell for their sob stories and didn't call the police, never again. Even if you don't see any damage, it's there and you may notice it later when the light is different, and if you didn't call the cops and file a report, you're SOL.

Oh and if it's a minor accident (fender bender/scratch) make sure you pull both vehicles out of traffic. It's stupid, illegal and dangerous to leave the vehicles in traffic while waiting for the 5-0 to arrive, as that will only cause more accidents.

ya, call the cops, get a case file report, so in case anything happens later on, you'll have proof and the cop as a witness. because if YOU don't protect yourself.. sometimes they can turn the story against you! even thoguh you are the victem.
