A question for anyone with some medical experience

hey everyone,

It seems that S2KI has a decently large population of people who work in the medical field so I figured maybe one of you can answer my question. I went today to have three pins removed from my hand (I had a bad mountain biking crash) that had been there for the last six weeks. While it sucked (hurt pretty bad and just felt weird) getting them removed it was no more painful than half of what I've been through with the whole ordeal. But about 2-3 minutes after all the pins were removed I got real light headed/nauscous and ended up fainting and going into a mild seizure. When I came back to the doctor explained the reaction I had was normal, but I could see in his expresion that it shook him up too. So I just need to know if that sounds like a normal reaction to what I had done or is it something I should look into further?

Now I don't have a weak stomach for blood or pain or anything of the sort and I have no history of fainting/seizures which has me a little concerned.

damn that is scary,....i got no experience with this but it had to suck. back in the day when i got my lip pierced i got instantly light headed and sweaty but i felt cold ....the piercer had me lie down and got all sorts of fans and cold rags to cover me with........could be a mild shock syndrome

Normal.

Young men are the biggest wimps when it comes to things like this.
You'd think it'd be the little old ladies, but seriously it's the young men that are the ones passing out all the time.

And yes young women are much tougher than men usually.

The seizure-like symptoms don't sound normal, but fainting is pretty common in situations like that. I passed out when I dislocated my shoulder in high school. It hurt a lot, but I was still pissed I passed out. Nothing I could do about it, though.

sounds like a mild shock situation. you cant control how your subconcious reacts to trauma of any kind. The seizure sounds uncommon but I bet it was just a mild reaction your body produced as a result of the loss of conciousness

<--- not a doctor

by the way, if I didn't make it clear, Ckit is right. After all he IS a doctor.

CKit 10-22-2008 09:46 AM

Doctor of Looooooove!

And just to be clear, it wasn't really a "seizure."

Convulsion, sure. But not a primary brain problem. Any brain gets cranky without enough blood. Still normal.
