I have posted this in the Australia forum, but wanted to see if anyone else had any info....

The Mrs. & I are thinking of taking a trip to Australia. We were thinking of renting a motor home & driving down the east coast(Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne). How long would this take if we SCUBA a couple of days in Cairns, & spend a couple of days in each city? Is this recommended? Or, am I better off as a tourist to buy a package deal from a travel company? Grand European Tours

I am not sure how long the drive will take, but I will make a diving recommendation, if you have time. Heron Island! I believe that it is off of Townville on the ocast. You need to go out on a ferry (without vehicle) of helicopter.
It is truly an amazing place, the reefs are pristine and the fish are plentiful. The only down side is that they use 50s instead of 80 tanks.
Above Cairns, we really liked the Daintree, but the diving up there was not anywhere near as good as Heron Island.

hmmm, i dont know if u americans know this but australia is quite large and driving from say sydney to brisbane will take u at least 12 hours no stop. u might want to plan what u want to see and then allocate time to those places, but cairns, brisbane and then to sydney, maybe melbourne in a motor home?? u might be better off flying between states cause air fares are pretty cheap and then rent a car when u land in each city.
btw, how long u planning to stay?

Plan on staying about 3 weeks. Would like to see as much of your country as possible, without rushing here & there(it is a vacation, not work ).

Thanks!
