When did it become okay to use your real name on the internet?
I guess it must have started with MySpace or Facebook, but I really don't understand in the world we live in why we would want to publish our legal names online for the world to query. Is it simply to self-market? We want people to find us? I think back to the days of phone books; when everyone was published in a directory, but now it's more than a name, address and phone number: we've added our likes, dislikes, all comments and personal opinions directly linked to our legal identities. Do people realize the risks or just don't care about them?

So everyone can know how cool we are by showing our names.

Your name is your brand. Use it wisely. Make it stand out. Make it obvious. . .
. . . or hide it in plain sight. -Brian Anderson |

Kind of like posting a pic of your car with the license plate showing. Most likely nothing will happen to your car, but it's useful information to the right kind of bad person who just might decide to look you up...
