When the sky tells you it is too cold out
Got a pic of some sun dogs today that was kinda neat. For those not living in the great white north, these typically occur because of ice crystals floating in the air. While it is cold and getting colder (6F when I took this, but -10 by end of day today) todays mainly were due to winds blowing snow into the air. Still neat to see. These are not due to looking through a window or an artifact of the camera. Next week we may see some diamond dust too .. which is literally frozen moisture suspended in the air, since it will be -26F (air temp) Monday and Tuesday according to the forecast.

My wife works for a utility (an evil utility to the global warming crowd.) She sent me a pic of their N Dakota coal plant going full tilt in 30 below. The steam clouds were gimungous.
Sun dogs are cool, but my favorite cold weather phenomenon is hoar frost.
