Default Fontana Update/WTD Registration

Friendly FYI from our event coordinator.

--

Just found out that Fontana is fully booked.

READ: NO MORE ROOMS

I'm having Fontana scrub the list to ensure ONLY registered WTD7 folks receive the discount for rooms.

On another note, the VW R32 guys will be there and it looks like they are expecting nearly 70+ cars. So it's gonna be a busy weekend.

I already reached out to their organizer to share itineraries and the like. It also looks like we'll be sharing the car wash set up. The R32 guys I've met at the Dragon in past events/gatherings were really cool...so I expect the same on this trip.

me too

it'll be a good time..I know of at least two Ohio people who don't have rooms, both of whom registered for the event. I'm trying to figure out how to squeeze more people into my cabin but we are already maxed out

I believe some people down in Florida are getting some backlash because people found out they are crashing WTD..... I'm hoping there are none from Ohio this year... if so, I'd suggest they remove themselves from all Ohio s2000 events for at least a year (figure by then people will forgive and forget.... maybe...)

Maybe it's time to formally connect lodging with registration.

It sounds like that's the direction they are going to be heading with this.

So then I wouldn't be allowed to attend the event just because I choose to stay somewhere else? I know at least a couple of people who own property down there and want to stay at their own places.

Wouldn't a nametag or a windshield sticker solve that problem a little easier?

Shannon..

Other way around actually...

If you are attending the event and registered, you would receive the code to get a discounted rate at Fontana.
The issue came about because people were using the discount code that was posted in the Dragon Events thread and staying there and participating in the event but not actually registering. As a result, people who did register and did plan on staying there have to find other accomodations since Fontana is sold out.

^ Not a great experience when you think that the Dragon Event Staff has planned this event twice a year for nearly a decade now and the time and effort put into organizing the event gets taken advantage of by freeloaders...

Personally, it doesn't sit well with me (I've been attending for 5 or 6 years now), and it isn't sitting well with other Community Organizers throughout S2ki. It's a public road so one can really stop anyone from attending. The issue stemmed mainly from the room availability but there is an element of tact and class mixed in there as well.

Hope that clarifies. If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to ask

Np Shannon..

I'm guessing if you had some confusion with it, perhaps others did as well so I'm glad I clarified.

You have your "crew", you've planned you know the amount of time, energy, and resources it takes to plan an event... Plan one for 20~40, it's exhausting... imagine planning one for 200+ people..

...then find out there are freeloaders...

Just don't feel that's right (or fair) to those that put time in to plan the event.... and I also don't feel it's fair for those that do cough up the money to register and attend this semi-annual event only to find out that someone who didn't register took a room that could potentially have been mine.

I know of at least 4 people now who are SOL because of this and have to potentially stay 45 minutes away because of this..
