What actually happens when you go to traffic court? Do you make your plea and the judge sends you home with a reduced sentence or to do have a chance to saw a few words?

The few times I have been to traffic court for tickets it takes 2 appearences before the judge if you are protesting the violation. First time they ask how you how you plea and then set a court date. The next time you visit and the cop who wrote the ticket is not going to show the DA or assistant DA will ask if you pay the fine there will be no points and at that time you have to gamble each time I went I said no deal and appeared before the judge. The cop was a no show so they dropped the charges. I may have just been lucky but if the cop would of showed I would have had to pay the fine and received the points.

I am thinking about reschuling the date once or twice and hopefully the cop won't show up or forget since i rescheduled a few times.

FYI.....I know here in Ohio as of Jan 1 2004 they are no longer allowed to send tickets up with no points. You cannot pay the max fine with no points anymore.

But you can definitely get a reduced fine if the judge is in a good mood

I just went to court downtown today because I was fighting a fail to stop at red light ticket, I talked to the prosecutor infront of the judge and had it pleaded down to a non-moving violation, they seem to be pretty lenient as long as they get there money.

So it sounds like it's worth the effort to go to court and fight it.

Does anyone know if you get a ticket out-of-state (say, in Michigan), do you lose point on your Ohio license?
