Nah, more telling you to weigh the options and REALLY think about it and look at all the factors. My advice is for areas farther north so it could be a lot different. To each their own. I'm not a big fan of Ohio. I did grow up there and I'm a country boy at heart, but there's a lot of stuff in Ohio that I just want away from,. Other than that I do really enjoy it. If I don't get stuck in Ohio long term I'll probably be going to GA/SC or TX.
For me personally, while it's nice to have all the activity of the big cities out in the MD, DC, Virginia area and tons of stuff to do, it's overwhelming, overpopulated, and just too much. Some people like that. The people REALLY suck for the most part in those areas. It's too busy sometimes and just drove me nuts. The s2ki guys are awesome, and other car guys. I left a bunch of car friends out there, and still go visit, but living out there is something I could never do again. Unfortunately the majority of my jobs are in that area.
If I absolutely had to work out there again, I'd live in PA or WV and commute, which is also a very concerning idea because I lost two S's due to incompetent/distracted drivers out there. There are a bunch of laws and what not that I don't agree with in both MD and VA and I could never live in either. I think I mentioned it's also stupid expensive. Especially for car enthusiast, and Honda owners. I was paying exorbitant insurance rates for my Honda's out there. This was also before I had a crotch rocket so I'd be real curious to see how much I'd pay now.
Land/housing is also just retarded. I have a 5 bedroom 1 acre lot and am paying less than what a 2 bed apartment in the NOVA area would run me. Richmond is a lot further south and might be secluded from all of this. I don't know, what the lands that far south hold. (Maybe it's the hidden gem, lol). I do remember the traffic on 95 near Richmond sucked every time I had to drive it, but I never spent anytime in Richmond itself. Always was traveling past it.
Some positives I'll say for the area though. Good car scene. Always something to do, I worked 1st and 3rd when out there and no matter my schedule I could always find something to do from going to gyms, casinos, food, etc it didn't matter. Driving past the capitol building at night is spectacular. Cruising DC in the wee hours of the morning when it's not busy is also amazing. Lots of parks and hiking if you are into that. Jobs pay well if you are experienced.
I'll leave you with this. I left the area at the tail end of 2016/beginning 2017. I went back for two months at the beginning of 2019, to prepare for a 1 year stint overseas. That two months I had extremely high stress and blood pressure. I was almost in a bunch of traffic accidents, and was actually hit while running in a highly populated area. Now I get shot at everyday and have rockets lobbed at me while I "relax" and I'm at a normal blood pressure. MD/DC/VA are more dangerous and stressful than a warzone.....
Question for you, what do you do? What kind of employment are you running from and what are you looking for? I know lots of people in Ohio and the MD/DC/VA region in various job capacities. Might be able to pass your resume around if you'd like.

That’s a ton of good insider info. Extremely helpful, actually.
I work in higher education and my job offer is at VCU. Great school, great opportunity. I currently work at Wright State. Great school, not sure of how much opportunity is left here though. I manage a creative design team and we build online courses.

Glad my insights weren't pointless. I don't have any contacts in that specifically, but I do know a former Squad mate that is now either an adjunct or actual instructor at some school in VA. I know a lot of techy jobs that could probably use that if you could/want to go for a security clearance. I used to work with a couple of companies for designing cyber courses for some of the programs out there. But that would put you more in that Northern suck zone.
I can understand the urge to get out or Wright State.

Today is Tuesday, June 11th.
It may feel like a Saturday to you retired folk, but it is indeed a Tuesday.
