00 to 02 retro-fitted top

according the helms service manual, the 00-01 and 02 frames are not the same. it seems like the
top will not fold correctly. after i install mine, the top fits perfectly but did not fold correctly. eimea
was the first person who did it but eimea had the dealer to install it. the dealer used elastic strips
to help fold the top and i tried the same on mine and it worked! basically, without the elastics, the
last "bar" (there are total of 3 bars you see on top of the roof when the top is folded up) will hit
the roll bar. in order to clear that when you want to fold the top down, you'll have to use elastics and
connect the last bar to the second last bar. so then when you fold the top when the 2 bars will pull closer as the top is folded down and clear the roll bar. on the '02 frame, honda designed it differently.
the '02 frame uses 2 springs (one on each side) and the spring will pull the bars when the top is folding down. i compared the 00-01 and 02 frame in the manual before i start the installation myself and that is the only difference i see in the service manual. the frame structure are pretty much the same.

Some of the pics that my sister helped me take along my
'02 soft top install. Sorry if they are not clear or is not helpful.

I don't doubt that it can be done. Did you find an 02+ top?

BlackNightmare 01-08-2006 07:50 PM

sure did

JulieU 01-08-2006 08:07 PM

Haha, you posted the same time I did! Yea, that's even better because it looks like you won't have to retro-fit that top since it is made for 00-01. Sounds like it should just bolt right on, so to speak.

BlackNightmare 01-08-2006 08:12 PM

well i doubt they know what their talking about. I dont think ANY tops with the glass just bolt right on i dont think. i'll post it up and see what people think. Hah we both did post up at the same time! thats crazy.

It is the same as this one here. You will have to modify the frame in order to get it to fold correctly. I say don't waste your time with modding the frame and just get a full fledged 02+ soft top. http://cabrioworld.com/secure/detail...56&modelID=315
