No afternoon storms today, clear over the mountains so we headed off early and made it to the top. Well the parking lot anyway :-) It was cold up there. 40s.

The S2K at Mt Evans (how many mountain goats can you count ;-)

A view from the car (in the direction of the green arrow below)

The location on Google Maps

Trying to make the most of my time here between the afternoon storms and the snow (can't be too far off :-)

I'm at 8465 in my Xterra. If you get the chance, go South on 25 then at Trinidad, go East on 160 to 389 and go South to Branson, CO and then 551 to Folsom, NM then to Capulin. If you have an hour or so to enjoy, go to Capulin volcano. Watch the 15 minute movie and then drive to the top and take the 1.1 mile hike around the rim. I've done it about five times and enjoy it every time. When you are driving down, some people do not care for the edge too much and tend to drive in the middle of the road. I envy you taking your S to Colorado. I haul too much stuff up here and back and there would be absolultely no way I could make it up my sister's drive even with the stock height.

It is also a nice drive through the Oklahoma Panhandle on HWY 412 and then drive Southeast on the Northwest Highway. Don't get any driving awards in those small towns.

How out of breath does it feel at 14k?

I wondered that myself. Not too bad if you don't want to anything ;-) I've been at 6000' for 5-6 weeks so maybe that helped.

Oh, it was good but mostly 1st and 2nd gear with curves, cliffs and cyclists. It pulled well when needed but not very fast.
