Default Went to the dyno today!

We've had a vendor stop by the shop a couple times pitching this stuff called "TerraClean" that is supposed to clean out the injectors, clean the carbon out of the engine, boost power, increase gas mileage, etc, etc. Snake oil, basically. Being skeptical of snake oil, we wanted to see some numbers to back up his claims. Fair enough, he says; and sets up a dyno day. I took my S to APS Racing in Midwest City this morning to see if this TerraClean stuff was legit...and to get a free dyno run.

We did three runs on my car. They have a Mustang dyno up at APS. First run was just for a baseline. The car was fully warmed up, it was 60F with 50% humidity. We can in 4th gear up to 8k. I made 212/156, which I thought were pretty decent numbers for an '04 with almost 87k. Immediately after the first run he hooked up the TerraClean.

To run the service you have to connect the TerraClean system directly to the fuel rail and disable the car's fuel pump. The car runs on the TerraClean for 10-30 minutes, depending on the engine.

After running on the stuff for about 20 minutes, he disconnected the system and hooked the fuel pump back up. The car ran for about 2 minutes while getting the dyno set up for the second run. Atmospheric values were the same for the second run. On the second run I made 225/166. Just for shits and giggles we ran a third time with the dyno unloaded, to simulate what a run on a DynoJet would look like. On that run I made 243/178.

I'm not endorsing this TerraClean stuff, yet. We'd like to do another dyno run in about a week and see what happens then, but back-to-back the results are pretty impressive. We (Eurosport) are considering getting the system. I'm curious to know if any of you would be interested in doing it; and if so, at what price point?

I was pleased with the 212/156, and I'm VERY pleased with 225/166. If you account for a conservative 15% drive line loss, the crank numbers are 258/190 based on my second pull. The 243/178 just makes me laugh; those are crazy numbers for a stock AP2.

I've got some power left on the table. If I put my CAI back on, installed a test pipe, and got tuned for that I'd probably be able to pull another 15-20hp out of it. I'm going to look into that a little bit, anyone have an opinion on the best piggyback tuning option for the '04-'05 AP2s?

I took some video and pictures, and I have the dyno chart with all 3 runs plotted that I'll scan and get up here shortly. And get this, the vendor (whom I had not met before), is actually a guy that I worked with as an RA in college. Small world! He has sold this TerraClean system to a number of dealers in the Dallas area and is trying to expand up into the OKC area.

All in all, not a bad way to spend a Wednesday; doing some product research and getting dyno'd for free!

Here's a couple quick pics of the sheet with all three runs:

And a couple others:

Here's the vid of the last run: Link (Facebook)

if its a reasonable price, it looks like it could be worthwhile, say in the 50 dollar range. (i just pulled that number out of my ass, who knows what your break-even price would be...). i'm interested in seeing the results of the next dyno run.

Idk about mustang dyno's but go to a dynojet and you'll be heartbroken. I'm not saying the numbers didn't happen but i made 243 with 9psi on a T1 Race tune, Dynojet of course

or, their dyno reads way high. T1's dyno measured 10hp more than the same dyno at Xtreme Performance on expressway and rockwell when i got tuned by mase

For some reason that doesn't seem right. I had to get a tune to get numbers like that. Maybe the stuff is like JP-8 or something. And the simulated dynojet numbers are ridiculously incorrect I think... my tuned numbers are on a dynojet.

i needed a turbo and a conservative tune (way too rich, afr's in the low 11's) to make 243/ 190

the dyno you used gave you a optomistic base number and then broke some how

Yeah, that's just not right... 243/178 would be great, but something went wrong there man.

Yeah, I don't for a second believe I'm making 243/190. Y'all didn't really think I was claiming that as legit, cmon now.. The jump from 212 to 225 I can deal with, and that's not entirely unreasonable. Every dyno is different, though, and this one might be a little hot to trot. Who knows, but I will say that it feels more peppy after having run that stuff through it. There is a little section of road on my way home that from a dead stop I can consistently hit 72 before having to brake. Today I hit 75 on that same stertch. *shrug* Maybe I'm just having a good day!

Ok, here's a quick pic of the dyno sheet; I'll get around to scanning it later.
