Track Days for the S2000 ?
I've been wanting to take my car to the track, but it seems everywhere I check a stock S2000 is not allowed due to safety standards. Is this just in the Northwest area? I really don't want to put $$$$ into the car (for roll bar, seats, etc.) just so I can go to a track day. Everyone says how awesome the car does on track and I would love to experience that. I think its funny that a 1985 toyota pickup can go to the track but they wave a S2000??!?!? Does anyone on here know more about this?
Thanks

Yes, ran into this last year with Cascade Motorsports. Try BMW/Porsche club (I'll post info as I am signing up this year). By the time Cascade told me I could not run (after registering successfully) I could not get into any HPDE classes for the other clubs.

Don't think you are going to find any club that runs at PIR that will allow you to run with out a roll bar. Sorry. Might check some of the tracks up in Washington but I think you will find the same thing up there. In Cali they allow the S to run with out a roll bar... A bit far but if you don't want to put a roll bar in the S that is your only option (that I know of)...

you could go to the club you want to run with before hand and present them w/ information about how several nationally recognized sanctioning bodies do recognize the factory stock S2000 roll over protection as sufficient for on track use...

Its too bad many tracks do no research and simply have a rule not allowing roadsters without a full bar. I was turned away at VIR many years ago and on the same trip caught up to an S2000 group with a car that went off the road and landed shiney side down... the reinforced windshield frame and roll hoops held just fine and both people got out without major injury.
I used my car at numerous tracks in Texas and Oklahoma for years with no problem. Never saw a roll over of anything although there is always an occasional off track excursion or wall impact.
I sold all my track stuff before I moved up here so I have no experience at PIR but expect the issue is up to the group sanctioning the event (they usually set event guidelines and fund services/insurance). There have been numerous events at PIR that have allowed S2000's in the past so I would guess it is a matter of shopping for the right group.

Cascade will not allow it but Prodrive will. I exchanged emails with both schools last summer. The cost is quite a bit more at $500 but that appears to be the only option available w/o a roll bar in the S.

This policy is a shame, not allowing a car that was meant to be tracked. I got confirmation from a colleague who is one of the BMW Club organizers that the S2000 has acceptable rollover protection from the factory. But, I am following up before I register and let you guys know. I will be a novice for HPDE classes, dont know about others here, but would be nice to have more than one S2K in the class.
