yesterday after my golf I bought a California car duster and some Meguiar's detailing spray and some Meguiars tire stuff. I think I will look for one of those B & D machines too so if you find one Simon please let us know. D'Arcy |
Specialty Oil (also where to buy)
So, in the spirit of wing's detailing post here is what I know about getting those expensive synthetics.
Mobil 1, or any other mainstreem synthetic engine oil -> everywhere from Canadian Tire to Walmart. For some reason Walmart has a special 4.4L Mobil 1 jug vs. the 4L everywhere else. Redline engine oil -> Canadian Tire (Hunt Club and Merivale), PartSource stores Everything else at: Auto Import Parts & Service Ltd 613-226-7902 1777 Woodward Drive, Ottawa, ON K2C 0P9 It's mainly a Porsche garage. Has a good selection of all the high performance synthetic fluids. Fairly expensive, but it works out to about the same as the US exchange with shipping and duty, plus without the hassle. Here is a list of what I remember was there: -> Mobil, engine oil, gear oil -> Redline, engine oil (more expensive than above), MTL, MTL90, gear oil -> Amsoil, engine oil, ?think the gear oil too -> ATE super blue brake fluid -> Castrol brake fluid (that uber expensive and high quality) -> Motul brake fluid After a week of bedding the new OEM brake pads, the Brown truck stopped by and dropped off my new more race-like brake pads. I sent an email yesterday to Satisfied Motorsport saying "so where's my email update? It's been over a week." I got back "Your order was shipped today and you should be receiving it tomorrow." Coincidence, I think not . For those of you interested in more braking performace, I got the Gransport GS5 pads. They are supposed to be equivalent to the Cobalt GT Sport being sold in the s2ki Marketplace. They are also supposed to have about 30% more bite than the OEM pads. The box has their exact date and time of manufacture. Sure hope they don't have an expiry date . Their Canadian, and were on Dreamcar Garage . http://www.satisfiedbrakes.com/grans.../gs5street.asp I would of tried the Williams Performance Friction, because they sponsor the Ontario club racing (20% off for CASC club members). Unfortunately, they don't seem to have a trackable street compound, only autocross OR track. It's funny because the GS5 (OK for lapping) have the same operational temperature range as the Williams autocross compound, hmmm Williams don't have the S2000 backing plates, so I would also have to get them to "retread" my old ones. http://www.wpfri.com/ I'll reserve judgement on the pads until they are fully bedded in and get some autocross and lapping in them. Tonight I did start braking (hah, pun) them in. They are quiet and do seem to grab faster than the OEM pads. That could be placebo though. They are also very easy to modulate. FYI, now that I've changed so many pads and bought various brands of pads. I can tell from the installation instructions that Satisfied also makes the performance pads for Monroe, that are sold at Canadian Tire. I'm assuming its their OEM replacement line of pads. Those are on my Integra and they really did overpower my tires (good) at the autocross. |
I've merged a few of our older threads together and created this sticky.
Let's try to put as much usefull local information as we can in here. IE: Where to buy products, oils/brakes/filters etc. Where to do servicing, whatever. I'd like to add, when I did my diff oil change I went to parts source and used Castrol diff fluid seems to work well. |
:)
I am looking for an oil filter. Also I have had a chat with a local dealer re: discounts on parts for the club. will let you know how that works out. I see filters listed on the web....6.00 US. :) :) |
Thanks James
