Default Clutch Job

SOS SC ==> slipping clutch, so I need to replace/upgrade the clutch.

I have all of the parts ready, but I'm still on the fence on DIY with no lift or paying someone/shop to do it if the price is reasonable (i.e., labor < $600) and more importantly, if I can trust the shop's knowledge and competency (not like I have much ).

I've changed clutches before without a lift (last one was earlier this year on a MkII MR2 and that was a PITA), but not on an S2000 yet. I think it'll be similar to the MR2 job where it's more of a PITA than complex, but after the MR2 job, I may have already reached by clutch job quota for the year

I've spoken with both Zahntech and Outback Automotive (I know of them from the Subaru world) and I believe both have done the job on a boosted S before, provided a labor quote under $600, and appear to be highly regarded.

I'd like to hear some feedback and shops used, especially if by any chance, someone used one of the previously mentioned shops for a clutch job.

Those sound like good prices. I kept getting quoted 8 shop hours when I was calling around, though I didn't call Zahtech.

8 shop hours at $100/hour, I decided to do it myself. You're right. It's a PITA, but doable. Breaking the knock sensor was the worst part.

I can call my buddy in Everett for you if you'd like. I'm sure he'll beat $600.

Yup, if I DIY, I'll remove the knock sensor to avoid this.

Assuming the price point of labor was between $500 and $600, would you pay it or DIY again?

At times I felt I should've just paid the $800 for labor and called it a day. Especially after breaking two knock sensors!

However, even 500-600 for labor, I think I still would've done it myself. I don't like to pay, if I'm confident I can do it myself for much less. Even after going through the knock sensors, I still came out saving a bunch.

Even breathing on the knock sensor is risky!

I worked for Honda of Seattle and did the majority of the clutched on S2Ks while I was there.

I think FastFour is referring to a guy named Curtis, who is the best tech at Honda of Seattle and does a LOT of side work. Don't know if he'd want to do a S2K transmission at his house though I typically do them at my current shop for 5-6 hours @ 75/hr plus MTF.

Curtis is indeed who FastFour referred to. I spoke with Curtis and he's willing to do it at his house.

I'm still deciding on what route to go with, but please PM me or post your contact info so I can speak with you
