Default Wa DOL Title transfer help please?

I had my s2k stolen a little over a week ago. I need a car to get around and a member of the forum has offered me his integra gs-r for a very good price. I'm all set to buy it, but there is a catch -

The title was transfered on Monday from member's Father's name to his. The car is curently registered under the said son's name.

From what I understand, I have to wait for the son to receive the title in the mail before I can purchase the car and drive it?

Does anyone know a faster way to get around this? I'm stuck with a beat up land rover for the time being, help!

There is no way around it. You have to have a title in the current owners name, signed by them in order to take ownership.

They usually take 2 weeks to arrive in the mail.

are you afraid he'll rip you off? If not, give him some of the money and start driving the car ......... the title shows and you finish the deal.

If you want, you can think of it like you're renting from him for a couple of weeks.

No, not afraid he'll rip me off - Won't it be under his insurance until the title arrives? Or is the bill of sale good enough?

...it will be under his insurance but you'll be covered under his insurance if he gives you permission to drive the car (like letting a friend borrow your car) just don't crash the thing and you're good to go.

..... if that's not agreeable to him, then do the deal with a Bill of Sale and you get the car added to your insurance (just as you would if you got the Title) and have him sign the Title over to you when he gets it. That scenerio would be just like he had the Title and signed it over to you the day of the Dealio but you left it sitting on your night stand for a week and a half before hitting the licencing place to pay the taxes and apply for a new Title in your name (like none of us have ever done that before ).

You may insure a vehicle without owning it. Call your insurance agent.

Your insurance should cover YOU while driving any vehicle (mine does, anyway, for short periods, i.e. car rental, borrowing a friend's car). Of course, your policy may be different... check with your insurance company. I think your issue only really applies to the comprehensive coverage during the 2-3 week period.

And, as Jerry says, you don't actually have to own it to insure it. Insurance has nothing to do with ownership.

My insurance policy covers any rental vehicle I drive, and also any new car I buy for some period of time (I think 15 days), precisely to allow time for insurance and registration and such to be settled. I would talk to your insurance agent, rather than us, for details into your exact case.
