Thumbs up Bought an SB-900 to go along with my SB-600

I was thinking of buying two more SB-600's for a total of 3 SB-600's, however I have been reading "hot shoe diaries" and the author raves about the SB-900 and its ability to zoom to 200mm. I do have the BH small umbrella kit, am looking to get a softbox, but anyway, do you think I would have been better off with 3 flashes instead of 1 sb-600, and 1 sb-900

3 >2 and will you actually use that 200mm zoom ability? Using a flash at that focal length is kind of against the grain.

jest sayin

never seen an sb600, but i do have one sb900

for my strobist purposes, i have 2 sb 28s and 2 sb80 dx

And no, they're not CLS compatible. Funnily enough after I switched to Nikon, I've NEVER used CLS.

so to answer ur question

if the sb600 is sufficient for ur every day needs, keep that and buy the older lights. You'll need to buy triggers, but you'll be learning something new; instead of relying on the computer to figure out ur ratios.

Well, from what I read the 200mm zoom does a good job of really "narrowing" down the are ya want lit, I dunno how to explain it, something like that I just found that the SB-600 in some situations is just not powerful enough, and anything over 800ISO on the D300s is noisy (yes I know I can fix in post), and I am not a very steady hand...........

Just curious as to why you are buying so many small strobes instead of something like 2 Alienbees?

What are you using your strobes for?
What is the end result you're after?
What is your budget?

Answer these questions before you buy or sell anything.

This reminds me that I really have no idea how to utilize my flash effectively. I should probably do some reading myself.

Thanks Joey!
