CR2 file to JPG

Shooting in raw mode but it creates a CR2 file. Can this be changed to a jpg file does anybody know?

You can't rename the extension if that's the question.

You need an app that will read the CR2 data, and then give an option to save as jpg or whatever other format. I'd expect most (if not all) of the Photoshop suite with the right Canon Raw converters would work? That's what happens on the Nikon side. There are probably other tools as well, but since I have the PS suite, I've never looked.

Don't have photoshop :(

You would have to find a plugin to view them.
If you don't have Photoshop, what are you using to do post processing work? Whatever you are using, should, have a Canon RAW plugin available.

If you don't plan on editing your photos, there's really no reason to be shooting in RAW.

Agree. When I'm shooting a race, I actually switch from RAW to JPG. Less details I need to worry about when I'm post processing.

Haven't got around to editing any of my pics as don't really know what i'm doing in that respect.

Any ideas on what programmes to use?

You can convert the Raw [CR2] file to a DNG file which should give you more edit options.
Or
You can use an online file converter to change the CR2 file to a Tiff file.
Google CR2 to Tiff.

Gimp, which is free and good, has some plugins that will edit DNG files.
Adobe has a free RAW to DNG converter.
