[QUOTE=AssassinJN,Jul 13 2010, 06:58 PM]Minus the flag fail. The flag is in the foreground and needs to be blurred as well. To pull this off the best, get a subject that is tall (think church) and carefully mask around it, that way the background

Yeah, there's a clear difference between a true tilt-shift and PS. Which is why I titled the thread "Fake Tilt Shift".

Here are a couple of others that I did playing around the same night as the S2K one. We're talking about 10 seconds worth of work here with whatever photos I happened to have handy, so keep that in mind.

You're definitely picking the right type of images to fake, these look very nice.

Thanks. As I'm out and about, I'm going to be looking for more shots to take that lend to this style a little better - despite the generally cold reception, I really like it and I'll keep practicing and refining my style. I bought a little S90 to carry around a little while back, which takes pretty decent pictures for a point and shoot, so I'll have more chances to capture daily things without having to lug a ton of crap around.

FTR if you want to do REAL tilt shift photography let me know I have many years of experience doing so for REAL. The technique exhibited here is more commonly termed miniature faking where the use of the lens blur filter in ps and gradients achieve a result 'similar" to but not tilt shift photography.
I would actually love to see some of your tilt shift examples that you mention. I have only heard of this kinda of shooting about a month. Can you post some?

I've come to really like tilt shift ever now and then. Your last three look pretty good imo. Image choice seems extremely important.

The way fake photoshop blur converges leads to pretty bad looking images...

Maybe if you used something like this: http://www.frischluft.com/lenscare/index.php these would look good.

In fact, it looks like this gallery is done with Lescare and it actually does not look so fake: http://www.frischluft.com/gallery/le..._item.php?k=25
