Idea about the photo competitions!
Actually have two submission threads. One as it currently is for photos taken during the month of the competition. The second submission thread would be for an stock photo you may have from a previous shoot.
Only the submissions from the current month would be used to select the winner, but having the other thread may serve as a learning tool by getting more people involved in the submissions. The reasoning is that some people may not have the time or proper weather/daylight/conditions/etc... for the current period - but they may have taken some subject matter related shots at another time that could be used as examples or technique assistance. I am learning alot by seeing other peoples shots.

Not a bad idea. "Current Month Competition" as we have now, and "Themes to compete over for Critique"? The latter being anything from any time. We don't have to have a separate commentary thread - just keep it all in one?

Would also get over the slight problems that the weather is just a little "pants" here in the UK at the moment 
I know that gives us some opportunities - but it's dark, miserable and wet where I live this time of year

Great idea! I, for one, am having trouble getting out to take pictures when the wind is smacking my face at -6 degrees and the sun is gone by the time I get out from work.

Sight unseen, usually its a problem with the hips, make sure they're clearing. Hopefully that can tide you over until April.
