Thumbs up Looking for Nikon D40x/D60/D3000 - best prices?

Can anyone point me in the direction of a new D40x, D60 or D3000? I'm switching from Canon, so I'll need all new lenses, so I'm looking for either a D40x/3000 body with the starter lens if its good (I hear the 18-55 is a good lens), or where to go for a good lens with the body.

Can anyone help?

$469 - http://www.adorama.com/INKD40K.html

$469 - http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Digital-18-55m...57193660&sr=8-1

$399 (Refirb) - http://www.adorama.com/INKD40KR.html

Look on ebay too. You can find some deals there. it seems the going buy it now price is $469. The 18-55 is a GREAT starter lens.

Why you switching from Canon? I am all for, it just rare to hear someone switch after already having lenses. Bodies between Nikon and Canon... not usually worth throwing out your lenses in either direction

Thanks. I'm replacing my Canon SLR (film, mind you) with EF lenses and I've had great success with my Nikon digital point and shoots, not to mention older Nikon film cameras. I've always liked Nikons, so I figure now is the time to make the switch when going from SLR to DSLR. Plus, Nikons just seem to get better reviews and be built better then Canons.

I see you changed it to d40x, d60, d300

dont waste your time with the d40x or the d60. The d60 doesn't give you anything over the d40 so why waste your time.

The d40x has the sensor from a d80 and a slow flash sync speed. Id save the money and get the d40.

The d300, unless your shooting everyday all the time y waste the money over a d90? Yes the D300 is better but id save the money and spend it on glass.

I'd go for either a D40 if u want to save some bucks or a D90 if you want the best camera for your bucks.

I did change my op - basically afaik the D40x is the older, less featured D60, and a D3000/D5000 are somewhere above them. Plus, the D40 is 6mp and I'm looking for closer to 10, so a D40x/D60. For what I'm looking to do I'm sure a D40x/D60 would be fine, or a Canon 450D, but like I said, I'm open to making the move to Nikon.

The d40x/d60 are marketing cameras. They were made by Nikon so that people looking at specs would spend more money. You could shoot with both all day long and never tell the different between them and a d40. Megapixels mean nothing unless you are printing these pictures HUGE and even then your not buying yourself much.

So why spend 100's of dollars more for the same thing?

the d3000/d5000... well the d3000 is crap so lets not even talk about it. The d5000 is basically a cheaper version of the d90. d5000 vs d40? Same story only difference is megapixels. Sharpness will be identical! So why get a d5000 when 1. its not much better than a d40 and 2. for a little more your into a d90 which is a better camera than both.

The worst part is, spending the extra money on larger MP cameras and yes you get more MP and can print larger prints but you SUFFER IN HIGH ISO NOISE PERFORMANCE!!!! 6mp crop vs 12mp crop... 6mp crop will win all day long at ISO800.

You here it on this board all the time "Save money on bodies spend money on lenses" <- they should make that topic a sticky already.

Opinions vary. I've a long-time Nikon shooter and up until the most recent bodies I was considering switching to Canon! I was a Canon shooter way back with my Canon Pellix, pretty much how I started.

Now I don't feel I absolutely have to switch and that makes my glass happy. Both brands are great and starting to feel some Sony/Panasonic heat...

To the OP....what about used? You may be able to find something in your price range in the used market. Try KEH.com and Camera shops used sections. There are a lot of gems out there.
