Default Memory Card Question

i'm thinking of upgrading my memory card for what is pretty much a point and shoot camera 8mp. my question is do i go ahead and buy the 2g card or the 1g ultra card? will the 1g ultra really speed up write speed that much to where it justifies the price increase and decrease in storage?

The Ultra is noticeably faster when doing things like continuous hi-speed shooting.

If you're not doing hi-speed or a lot of bracketing I'd go the standard card.

They claim enhanced durability but I don't know anyone who had CF memory fail from rough handling. Transfer speeds should be noticeably better. Older cameras have lower limits on maximum data transfer so even higher speeds, like the Extreme III series, don't always show.

Your internal memory buffer in a P&S is usually small so it has to flush before allowing the next shot after, sometimes, a couple of shots.
