Need a new digital camera.
It's time for a new digital camera. I've always loved the Canon Elph's but I haven't read up much on them in a couple years.
The first one I had got dropped in a pitcher of beer. It still worked for a while afterwards but never as good. Bought a second one about 2 years ago but it was stolen when I moved. Now it's time for a new one...
I want something small that will fit in my pocket otherwise I wont take it with me. This is for just family / friends / hanging out type pictures, nothing fancy. That being said, I played around with my dads DSLR and I really like some of the more advanced features on it. So...what type of camera can I get thats small and fits in my pocket like an Elph but maybe has a few more advanced features then the others in the class? What's a good deal going on right now? Don't think I really need any thing above 5 MP. I also don't really want to spend more than $300.
Thanks!

I agree, can't really go wrong with those digital elphs.
Anything with more advanced features (like aperture, shutter control, and shooting RAW) will probably be too big for your liking.

I have always been partial to Sony for point and shoot cameras. I have a 7.2mp that fits in my pocket, takes nice shots and has manual mode in case you want to mess around a bit.
I dont have the model of the top of my head. It was the 7.2mp that came out last year. They have a new model. Sell for about $300 or so from what I recall.

I just picked up a Canon SD800IS.
It is the perfect combination of everything I was looking for.
Through a slick price match, coupon, and free shipping, I got it for $250 shipped.
I preferred the 800 over the 850is because the 800 comes with a wide angle lens, which is great for taking group shots in tight spots.
Image stabilization is nice to have because of the nature of use. Quite a bit of use will be indoors of people in low light conditions.
The SD900 is nice, but no image stabilization, and for the price not really worth it. And you don't really need 10 MP in carry around camera.

i use the kodak v570 as my pocket camera. has a dual lens system so you have a nice wide angle option.
