Just got an email from Nikon... Thought I'd share with everyone.
[QUOTE]July 16, 2009 Notice to users of the Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera While Nikon takes great measures to assure high quality in its imaging products, it has come to our attention that an electronic component related to power control in some Nikon D5000 digital SLR cameras does not meet factory specifications and may, in certain circumstances, prevent the camera from turning on, thus preventing operation of the camera. D5000 Indications of this issue include: |
Update: Nikon has posted a link on the Service Advisory page to check D5000's serial numbers to see if the camera is in the recalled batch.
Just checked mine... Unfortunately mine is among those affected by this issue, although no symptoms have appeared yet. Now I have to ship the camera to Nikon for them to do the replacement part(s). I did not see any turn-around time posted. Hopefully it'll be within a week to a week and half. We shall see.... |

After a month & half, I am going to drop off my D5000 at work tomorrow. Shipping to Nikon is provided for with UPS Ground. Let's see how fast they can get my camera back to me.

been shooting with nikon for 29 years. Last week send 2 lens in for service
that came out alright. The prob was NPS timeline, email acknowledgement had to pay for a repair that WAS under warranty NOW its going to take 4 weeks for a refund, I marked for pick up and they were in process of shipping them when I had very specific instruction NOT to. When addressing my concerns at the counter, they could care less about Customer service I'm about finished with NIKON |
Came home today and found a surprise package waiting for me.
It's my camera!!! Total turn-around time is about a week, as I dropped it off last Tuesday. Can't notice if they did anything, as there weren't any notes. Just the camera's date & time has been reset. Luckily my custom setting is stilled saved. I am one happy Nikon camper. :D |
