Please critique this new PP flow experiment
Trying to go for a darker, weathered, 'stormy', third world country look ala Luis Montemayor (thanks Clyde). These were the only two raw files I have on my work PC and I think they came out nice - though my monitors here arent calibrated - so the colors may be a bit off.
Looking for constructive criticism and tips on what to do better. Worked with dodge & burn, a bunch of adjustment layers, a bit of selective usm, etc..
I have no idea who these kids are, these were taken at my neice's first birthday party down in Virginia last month..

Hmmm...interesting. The second one definetely looks like Clyde's work
I do like that look. The first one is also very well done. My eyes are pulled straight to the girl's face. Well done.

Hey I have a monitor calibrator just sitting at home. Let me know if you want to borrow it.

The new 'flow' I'm trying to learn can be found here (which was posted by ILuvketchup in a different post). This was a great starting point to begin with, but I had to play around with it to get the desired color and effect.
The second photo was a bit over exposed so I had used three layers, -2 -1 and the original untouched version. On each layer I had erased certain pieces and played with the opacity slider. The parts I concentrated most on were the baby's face and the background (pink wall, window). I then added another layer where I did a little bit of dodging and burning for vignetting and darkening of clothing, then bumped the opacity of that layer down to about 20%.
Flatten, USM the eyes, then USM the photo, done.
I'm sure I couldve done this without all the layers, but this was my second attempt at this new flow. I've since streamlined and can touch up a photo in about 3-5 minutes.
