06 s2k in Manitoba...scam?
Hi,
My name is Andreas, I'm 28 and have been looking to buy an S2000 for about a month now. I just received a call from a guy in Manitoba that has a white 06 for sale with 50k kms on it. He's ready to let it go for $22k...
The story he's telling me seems a little far fetched. He claims to be a wholesaler in Winnipeg who is selling the car for his buddy. His buddy is, apparently, in Florida atm. The car is parked at the owner's secretary's house. I have relatives, in Manitoba, that could inspect the vehicle for me.
He claims the car was brought to Manitoba from New Brunswick with ~45k on the odo. The owner is 60 years old and never drove the car much, so he bought a Subaru Forester and is selling the S. The more I type, the crazier this sounds to me...
I have some photos of the car and it looks to be clean. I have not yet spent the cash to check the VIN. I was curious if anybody else has heard about this car or knows of it. My inclination is to run for my life.
I'd appreciate any input or suggestions!

I ran a carproof and at least his story checks out. Car was imported from the states into NB in 2008 and into Manitoba in 2012. There is one accident/damage report ($1750ish) in 2007, but no insurance claims. If that's the worst of it, I can live with it. Will continue to do more homework before making any drastic decisions.

Turns out the deal was legit. I picked up the car on Friday. The owner was a pleasure to deal with and the salesman, in Winnipeg, wasn't bad either. The car is almost mint, except for a small (1") tear in the soft top and a couple of nicks in the paint. The drive home was smooth and the car ran perfect.
It's always good to be careful, but sometimes, just because the story is a little strange, doesn't mean it's not legit.
