Originally posted by Calvin Lai Hey what u got seeing that u're from cowtown??? Read my thread https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...&threadid=44171 I have an '00 silver/black, with hardtop, bought brand new, sight unseen, never test driven. It's my daily driver so I have snow tires on aftermarket rims. I didn't really choose the color, the dealer did. At the time I wanted one, the dealer had no stock and he asked me what color I wanted and I said that I didn't care, whatever he could get the quickest. My buddy, VTEXTC (also in Calgary) has a yellow one with hardtop. I thought about a Prelude but in my mind a real sports car is RWD so I decided against it. I also considered buying a turbo MR2 but I had just come from a Fiero GT and the MR2 was simply not "different" enough for me. I'm a bit of a car nut and the S2000 is the current entry in a long list of hi-perf cars - Stealth TT, Vette ZR-1, Viper (& others). I really like the S2000 - not more, not less than the others, but I just like it differently. I don't know how long I'll keep it. Kinda depends on what comes along and grabs my attention. For me, a test drive is over-rated. I haven't test driven any of these vehicles that I've just mentioned. I gleen all I need to know from magazine test drives and so far, I haven't been surprised. However, if you're undecided, you should try to drive one although most dealers of "specialty" cars don't have the luxury of a demo on hand and you can't blame them for not wanting you to test drive a high priced car that you might not end up buying. I certainly won't buy a car that someone else has taken for a test drive. I'm reminded of another board member. This (insert your word in here) took an S2000 for a test and drove the sh$t out of it and scared the crap out of the accompanying salesman. Not only would I not want to purchase this car but this behavior most likely terminated all other S2000 test drives for anyone else who came along afterwards. I see the S2000 as Honda's equivalent of Dodge's Viper, Chev's ZR-1 or ZO6, Acura's NSX, Ford's Mustang Cobra R, etc. You most likely won't test drive these either. The usual way you get a test in stuff like this is you make the sale on condition of a satisfactory test drive. In other words, you buy the thing, pay the money, take the test drive and get your money back if you're not happy. Who knows, there are a few used ones out there now and maybe you can drive one of these. VTEXTC and I will most likely do some drives when spring/summer comes. We'll see who else might want to come with us. Keep us informed of your "hunt". |

Just read your previous thread. Somehow, I didn't twig on that your are from Edmonchuck. I have an '00 silver/black, with hardtop, bought brand new, sight unseen, never test driven. It's my daily driver so I have snow tires on aftermarket rims. I didn't really choose How is it in snow? I have driven my MR2 before a couple of times just to see what it's like. Not fun at all. Then again like someone said in my thread "It's just a car! Just drive it whenever"... How much does the hardtop alone cost? Does the S2K come standard with a front chin spoiler?? It seems like according to honda.ca, the front chin spoiler is a standard. My buddy, VTEXTC (also in Calgary) has a yellow one with hardtop. I thought about a Prelude but in my mind a real sports car is RWD so I decided against it. I also considered Spring/Summer 2001, I went down to Calgary quite a handful of time. This one time, as I was coming out of dessert house in chinatown, I saw this yellow s2k pulling up. I was just *drooling*. He started talking to some guy who drives an accord (if i recall) that has those rally-style yellow mudflaps. Maybe it's him? I know of an acquitance who has a yellow one here. Dunno him well to be able to get him to let me test drive the car. you're not happy. Who knows, there are a few used ones out there now and maybe you can drive one of these. VTEXTC and I will most likely do some drives when spring/summer comes. We'll see who else might want to come with us. Keep us informed of your "hunt". Is there some kinda of an s2k owner group in calgary? |
If you've been following some of my other responses on this board, you'll notice that I'm adamant about driving this car whenever and wherever I need to. I have more fun in the snow than I do in the warm months. I grew up with RWD cars and this one is just great to drive in winter conditions (with snow tires of course).
The hardtop I negotiated at time of car purchase for cost + 10%. Ended up being just over $4000.00 (incl. tax). I did the install myself. I'm not sure about the '02 model but it's been my impression that the chin spoiler is an extra cost option. On the yellow car, the chin & rear spoiler and hardtop was an imposed "pkg deal". I don't have the OEM spoilers. I have the Coastal Metals (axcilla) splitter/bumper protector and a rear spoiler from a different kind of car. VTEXTC got his car last year near the end of summer so I don't think you saw him. No, there is no formal owners group here. Myself, VTEXTC, Skitzo (a former owner and possible future owner again) get together once in a while for drinks and eats. Another Calgarian (Woodson) is in the same boat as you and may become an owner soon and hopefully, will "hang out" with us.:) |
Yep. I hope to have it in my hot little hands by May 1. Like xviper, I will drive it year round (with snow tires of course) because (also like xviper) I have spent many years driving RWD cars in the snow with no problems. I just can't fathom parking a car like that for 6 months out of the year. We will definitely have to get together this spring.
