Default numbers on the hill? what is it?

As we pulled away from Kelsey's that's situatied right by Sarcacee trail (??) in the SW, I noticed that there's a big hill behind the zellers and staples that has numbers on it made from dirt (?).

What exactly are those numbers for?

PS: damn this weather sux here! been snowing since my first day here on sat...

Seks,

The hill directly southwest of Westhills shopping complex was at one point tent city, home to approximately 15,000 Canadian armed forces members during WWII. In keeping with the British tradition, some of the soldiers used rocks to inscribe their regimental numbers into the side of the hill, commemorating several Battalions in Calgary and Edmonton. Over time, the rocks weathered and were washed away, until restoration sometime during the 1980s.

Hope that helps!

Asif
