Wake the Dragon?
On my long journey home after picking up my new car from a wonderful individual named J (previous owner of my new S2000) in Bradenton Florida, I had the opportunity to drive through North Carolinas infamous Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap, thanks to the direction of the previous owner of my new S.
Having had the most fun I've ever had in any car up in those mountains I figured that it would be a great idea to attend next years wake the dragon. In saying this how many Canadians usually attend the event? For those of you who have not heard about this event before have a look http://www.tailofthedragon.com/dragon.html Heres a few pics from the Dragon :drive: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y24...1611Custom.jpg I masked the front end to protect from rocks and other troubles. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y24...596Custom2.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y24...1598Custom.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y24...1597Custom.jpg A shot over the edge of one of the lookout spots, see the random tire. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y24...1593Custom.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y24...1592Custom.jpg |

Driving in B.C. drove home a big lesson for me -- the best roads are the most dangerous. The really good corners seemed to have the biggest bunch of loose gravel right on the best corners. I assume because the big vehicles shook loose some gravel at those points.
Sorry to say it (really!), but I think I will have to keep my agressive cornering to the track. At least I know what marbles are down there. |
There is no gravel or loose sand or anything on that road, at least not while I was down there. We left Dillard which is 2 hours away from the dragon at 10am sunday, and ended up just outside of chicago at 10pm sunday night, and were back in winnipeg at 8pm monday morning. So its about a 2 day drive to get there :)

From Winnipeg to Toronto is about 23-24hrs driving and driving from Winnipeg to Edmonton is a comfortable 14hr drive (done it in 9hrs but that was averaging 145 km/h). So about 36-38hrs of driving, not too bad at all. Awesome shots, I would love to do that run. Next year I'll have to trailer the lotus out for that!!!
