Where to get CEL code pulled for free

Ran over a deer carcass, luckily no body damage, had all the hair and guts professionally detailed out, but I did do some damage to the exhaust system.

I can hear what I think is an exhaust leak somewhere and a CEL came on. Car drives totally fine, but I want it back to mint...

Anyone know where I can get the code pulled? I hear the stealerships charge $$ for it. I know in Calgary, any Autovalue will lend you a code reader for free, but where to go in Edmonton, I have no idea.

they're pretty cheap to buy from princess auto etc, but i think partsource might rent them?

Probably PartSource can do it, maybe even Cambodian Tire auto service department.

Otherwise, I've seen them as cheap as $30ish at Princess. I can probably help you out too, I have a ScanGauge. Shoot me a PM and we'll see if we can hook up.

You have PM! Honestly I could probably try CT or PS, but I'd rather meet up with an s2k owner than deal with some goon behind the counter haha.

Check your oxygen sensor wires to ensure they are intact.....might set off the CEL.

Had the code pulled by saaboteur, it pointed to the EVAP system. Brought the car to Gary at Yellowhead Honda...they replaced the charcoal canister and fixed whatever was bent out of shape. Everything is fine now, and no CEL when driving..

ALTHOUGH, the CEL blinks 5 times when the key is turned, but before I start the car. Not sure what that's about.

Hey jeff, I had just asked one of the tech's at work to look up the problem your having with the CEL.

The flashing of the cel means it's still re-learning the code.

Out of the service manual it self.

" To check the readiness codes are set to complete, Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), But do not start the engine. The MIL will come on for 15-20 seconds. If it flashes five times, one or mode readiness codes are not set to complete. To set the readiness codes, do the procedure for the appropriate codes."

Also on a continuation of the manual it looks like you might need to bring it back in to the dealership to get it re-cleared if the light doesnt go off with in 50kms or so.

Cool man, glad you got that sorted out! Was going to ask you about that.
