International Business Help!
Hi all, I am currently a student taking an international business course at Wichita State University in Wichita, KS in the U.S. We have been asked to network with several individuals from outside the U.S. and find answers to two specific questions.
1. “What do you think is the most difficult challenge for U.S. businesses that want to do business in your country?”
2. “What advice or suggestions do you have for American companies that want to do business in your country?”
I chose this forum because of the camaraderie that all S2K owners have and would greatly appreciate the help with my project. If you can help at all please pm me or reply to this thread. Thanks again!

Well we are part of the US so US companies have easy access to Puerto Rico I would say you've have better answers from other international communities. But good luck with your project.

Following the footsteps of kikodaz and 2Bs2k I'd say that yes Puerto Rico is a territory of the U.S. and as such it's pretty much an open market for American companies and businesses.
Not many US businesses realize this and treat PR as an international market, do not consider us as part of the 50 states and avoid us altogether. In doing so these businesses miss a huge business opportunity as little Puerto Rico is the 5th largest business market for U.S. goods.
Considering that all the US big chain retailers that do business in PR have their chainwide #1 sales stores in PR, the decision to do business in PR is really a no brainer. For example, ck the sales figures of PR locations of Sears, JC Penney, Macy's, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Home Depot and many others. I remember when Sam's Club set up shop in PR over 10 years ago, they raised over $1MM in membership dues in a couple of days. That's the power of doing business in Puerto Rico.
In summary, the biggest hurdle and mistake for US companies to do business in PR is not to consider us as a domestic market. Truly avant garde businesses do and reap huge benefits for their decision.
