Pikes Peak - 2017
Hi,
Im from Houston, Tx and plan on driving the S up to pikes peak this year to watch the 2017 PPIHC and to also enjoy the other beautiful roads Colorado has to offer. Is anyone else in here also planning on attending PPIHC? Has anyone attended before and can give some advice such as the best viewing location, times to arrive and what to expect?

Colorado had some great scenery
But watch out for the snow
I was thinking about joining you at PPIHC, (June 25th, I looked it up), but I could never get the time off. Definitely on my bucket list, I'm going to check it out more.

90 views and no advice?
looks like i may stay below timber line to watch the race so i dont ruin the day with altitude sickness. I plan on cruising some random roads found on motorcycleroads.com throughout the trip.

I live in Castle Rock about an hour north and typically don't drive south so can't recommend too much. We did stop at the Royal Gorge earlier this year and it's a must see if you're near it. And Garden of the Gods is spectacular as well. There's Pueblo Motorsports Park track if you like road courses. And PPIR too - not sure what events might be happening then and if you could participate.
If you decide to come up towards Denver or up into the high country let me know and I can make some recommendations. There are some fabulous drives into the mountains.

I do plan on checking out the Royal Gorge and may do some rafting there. I have just recently heard about the Garden of the Gods and plan on trying to fit it into my trip. I will spend a couple days in denver towards the end of the trip (around June 27th'ish). I also plan on enjoying some drives on the west out side of denver. These are just roads im seeing on motorcylceroads.com.

I've never been to the race but some advice I've heard from people that have been. Get there early! The line starts super early, I think I remember my friend saying you need to be there around 2am. Pack a lot to eat and drink. Once you're on the mountain you can't get off until they finish racing. Sometimes as late as 5-6pm. If you can attend practice/qualifying (Monday-Friday) you won't have to be there all day. But you will have to be there early, I think its only from 5am-8:30am. If you can, I recommend going to fan fest on Friday night. Weather can be tricky on Pikes Peak, I've been up it 3 times, all during summer with 3 different results. Once sunny, once hailing, and once snowing.
