Hey Guys,

I was in an accident yesterday, right now I'm trying to figure out what I need to pay to get my car back to the way it was. Can anyone tell me what the total cost will be to fix my s2k?

I spun out on an on-ramp and lost control and hit the guard rail. I was driving like a rookie! Only the right side got damaged, mostly the back right quarter panel and the trunk. I'm also suspecting there's some suspension damage, though when the mechanic looked at it at Honda (just quickly by crawling under the car, he said the alignment looks like its not damaged, I didn't pay for them to put it up on the rack).

I don't have full coverage in my car insurance plan, so I'll have to pay out of pocket

Right now the honda is at a body shop and I'm waiting for them to give me an estimate on what'll be to fix it.

I currently owe $11k on the loan. So if the repairs cost too much, I may just try to sell the car for parts to help pay my loan down. I'd hate to lose the car but I couldn't afford $10k in repairs on top of the $11k loan.

How many miles are on the car? Find out if there is frame damage but even without fram damage from my experience, you're looking at close to 8-10k in damages to do it right. I mean it can be less but you would have to source out used parts, and possibly work out some deal with the Bodyshop.

It just went over 30k miles. I just got my first estimate and it was for $6500 total. The first guy to quote it said there isn't any frame damage.

Yea, if there is no frame damage, I'd fix it. Will they be replacing the quarter panel with a new one? I would not fix that panel on a car with low mileage like that. Whatever you decide on, good luck. 6500 is not a bad price. Maybe since I'm in NYC, it's more costly here.

I decided to go with the first guy that quoted me. He brought the cost down to $6,000 now. It sucks but its what I'm going with.

And when you get the car back, slowly learn how it reacts to your want for speed. Autocross would help you learn the car in a controlled environment. If you experienced understeer in your AP1, check you front tires as they may not be up to par.

The S2000 is a fabulous car but it cannot correct for improper decisions, even with VSA to a certain extent. Hope your repairs go well.

Finally got it repaired! Looks brand new!
I'm really pleased with the looks of the repairs. But I know the alignment is a little off. So now there's two new issues that I'm hoping someone can help me with.

Tires:

• I'm looking to get some good all-season tires off tire rack, any suggestions? (then I'll get my alignment done and hopefully it'll drive like it used to, or better than before the accident)

Scraped the bumper on curb:

• Its hardly noticeable, unless you get down on your stomach on the ground and look underneath. But I scraped the bottom front bumper two days after the body was repaired and totally repainted [I know what you're thinking, one rookie mistake after another]. Anyways, I can live with it. BUT, I'm just worried it may rust? I'm not sure if the bumper is metal or carbon fiber. If its metal then rain could make it rust over time. Again, its hardly noticeable. But is it worth buying some paint and touching it up?

The front and rear bumper cover is plastic, don't be worried about it.

I would just find a set of staggered AP2 wheels and call it a day.

Consider max performance summer tires. Better grip. But don't run below freezing.

I did the same to the bottom of the front bumper on my car right after I bought it. I was not used to the car yet and I misjudged a curb. Now I avoid all curbs like the plague. Its easy to misjudge the length of the front of the car and its easy to misjudge how low you are. I have also learned to be extremely careful about obstructions and objects on the road. Things that you could drive right over with a sedan or suv will do serious damage to an s2k. You have to pay much closer attention to the road. The other thing is that I have learned to be very cautious on wet roads. I lower my speed and I do not use cruise control on wet roads. I had a scare on wet roads once.
In general, the level of driver attention required is not unlike the attention required when riding a motorcycle. That is how I think of it.

Buy a splitter so you don't scrape the bottom . Came out good and take care of her this time
