Hello guys, my s2000 has been sitting in the garage for years. Today when I inspected the vehicle I noticed quite some rust at the bottom of both the front and rear quarter panels. Photos attached below.
Looks like the paint has come off quite a bit and the metal has got some rust on them. Given this rust condition, what do you guys recommend for the fix? I had no experience in dealing with rust, so if there's any reputable body shop near Metro NYC area, please let me know!
that's surface rust. remove or move the plastic bits, screws, whatever is in the way. I use the Dremel tool to knock off the surface rust to bare metal, then switch to 150 grit, then to maybe 220, feather it out to clean metal. clean with alcohol to remove dusts. I apply primer with a hobby brush, let dry, use some say 320 grit to smooth out the primer. apply a second layer or primer. smooth again with 320 grit. dry. Apply touch up paint and build it up. Let it dry. After it cures for a few days, I then take some spare PPF and wrap the edge that will get sand blasted in the future to further protect it..
instead of applying touch up paint (the Honda stuff), you can do a localized spray with a blend if you're super concerned about final appearance. I drive my car so the method above removes the rust and protects from progression of damage and being only a summer car, holds up well.
