Rusted Paint Chips (Search is down)

Sorry, the search is down and I'm unsure on where to find information about repairing certain chips that rusted on my car.

After washing my car today, I noticed two areas with paint missing that has begun to rust. They're not huge, but more like small paint chips that have begun to rust. Is this something I should get fixed as soon as possible? I don't want it spreading too far before it becomes more of a pain to fix.

Is this something I can easily touch up myself, or should I take it to a more professional paint shop to have them take care of it? Around my house, I have silverstone touch up paint and various high grit sandpaper as well as rubbing compound. Is it possible the rubbing compound can be used to take off the rust if it's still early?

(Sorry, the search function is down... again.)

Thanks! :D

What's up John? Did you mount those wheels yet?

Where are these chips at? I would first buy some OEM touch up paint to cover the bare metal.

I haven't mounted those wheels, yet.. I'm being very picky about what lug nuts and tires I want. :( .. I'd also like to wear out the tires I have on my stock rims first before I get around to putting on the new rims / tires. :D

Anyway. One of the chips was on the driver side area under the door. It was already rusted.. but I just bit the bullet and sanded away at the area. I think I got most of it out, but it looks terrible. It's difficult to touch up because the chip was rather big. I guess It was the best I could do, though. (I'm a big coward when it comes to sanding away at my car. )

You can you use a metal treatment its green I believe you buy it from advance autoparts or autozone and let it soak in the rust and clean it out with a shop towel and lacquer thinner. After the rust is removed touch up with oem touch paint to protect it from rusting again.

^^does that at all effect the sorrounding paint? i.e should you tape over the surrounding area?

The way you say it, it literally 'takes out' the rust and leaves the bear metal?

just curious =)

i had i small one developing rust. i got a needle and took the rust out. then tooks some primer, let it set overnight, then i put some touch up paint. now it looks normal. if you look up close you can tell it was touched up

You only want to put it in the chip sparingly let it only soak into the rust and follow instructions as directed.
