Rusty boot is this the worse one anyone has seen
I was a bit shocked to see how rusty the boot floor was in my s but I've ordered a new part as it looks like it's beyond repairing with a quick sand and fill job.
I was shocked as I had no evidence of water getting in as the carpets were always dry and never smelled bad but I guess with the hole all the water would run out anyway. Is this the worst one anyone has seen? https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...faf81d41be.jpg |
Here's a picture after I cleaned it with white spirits

Stand in it. to punch a body sized hole in it so you can stand on the ground while inside your S. That's the worst I've seen.
You'll need a new pan... |
Here's a new picture after pressing lightly with my finger

New boot has arrived it doesn't come with the plastic grommets but I still have the old ones. But I was thinking would it be a good idea to leave the holes as it is then if I get a future leak the water will run out? |

But I was thinking would it be a good idea to leave the holes as it is then if I get a future leak the water will run out? if so, check the top is bolted in the middle of the rain gutter along the rear deck, not bolted outside also check that your antenna is aligned with the lowest front part of the grommet side facing the driver and making a complete seal. on each side, behind each rear wheel, on the flat sections of the trunk, there are two grommets under the carpet and body deadening tape, you can see them looking up behind the rear wheel, ensure they are fully inserted and not partially popped from freezing if you have a rear deck spoiler, ensure it is not failure of the butyl around each bolt letting water in shin-etsu the trunk seal. ensure your soft top drains at the end of the rain rails are not clogged and overflowing into the trunk. ensure your fuel filler neck nuts(3) behind the fuel door are tight if you handle all of these, then water should never get there to rust it. I wouldn't leave those grommets out, I would fix the problem. |
Just stuffed loads of white grease on mine..

Thanks for the replies I'm getting it welded in tomorrow and have some new boot grommets to go in. Before putting all the carpet trim back I'll seam seal the welds and seal around the trunk vent. I've looked everywhere for leaks after washing my car then inspecting my boot and can't find any water drops anywhere so maybe this has been found and sorted before I got the car but obviously the damage has already been done. I'll check the soft top drains later on in the year as I've still got my hard top on atm.
