KW V3s or Clubsports depending on what deal you can get.
But end of the day i find that german systems just feel firm and planted while being able to absorb bumps instead of crashing into them.
Sat in a few JDM coilovers and yes they are planted and firm on nice roads, but becoming jarring and dancey when the roads get a little bumpy.

Sounds like they had a bad set up, you can iron all that out if its not a crappy coliover. Most people where I live don't have a damn clue when it comes to shock setups.
