How Will Ap2 Suspension Work on an AP1 ?
Hi , I've been buying up used parts to eventually use on my ap1 when the factory parts wear out (currently have a MY02 with 55k).
I just bought a set of shocks and springs from a 2006 Ap2, which will be installed on my car at some point in the future. My suspension is still pretty good, but I will swap them in the next few years most likely.
Can anyone suggest how the ride might change once I put the Ap2 springs and shock combo onto my Ap1 ?. Will the ride comfort become softer or firmer, any change in overall handling characteristics ?. I know the Ap1 rear end tends to be a bit more twitchy than the Ap2 rear end, I don't really care if that is lessened and softens up.
Just curious on the differences. thanks very much for any replies on this.

1.) AP2 suspension will fit AP1
2.) AP2 spring rates and shock valving were made specifically for AP2 chassis and the suspension geometry is different between the two
3.) The ride will be different and won't "handle" like an AP1
4.) AP2 suspension were meant to work together with other AP2 suspension components (sway bars, bushings, alignment, weight, etc), but I doubt you'll feel a difference unless you're a pro.

How would the ride comfort relate between an ap2 and ap1 ?

I kind of want to jump on this. The biggest difference in the ap1 vs ap2 suspension feel will be on the rear. The car will have more stability and should feel smoother. The ap1 was known to kick out alot and cause people to lose control, so they made ap2 suspension so that you would stick to the road better (grippy ride).
Like everyone else stated.... It will handle slightly different since you are installing it on a ap1.

I think suspension is subjective to the driver. Depending on how you drive makes a difference on what you like. Throw them on see how you like it. Make sure to get an alignment after.

thanks for the replies, I have purchased the parts so I'm committed to putting them in at this point. I think the change on the rear end might be welcomed, I don't mind them being a bit softer back there, might be a bit safer. I'll see how it goes once I get things installed, thanks for all of the replies.

- Everything was 100% bolt-on?
- Did ride-height end up changing? I have an 2002 w/ AP1 wheels an am curious if the AP2 suspension will increase wheel gap?
- Stiffer front, looser back -- did you lose some of the "AP1" manic feel for the more refined AP2 feel?
Any other advice/tips/thoughts would be appreciated before I commit to doing the same thing.
Thanks!
