Default Comptech Brembo BBK Info Thread- Brembo GT as Well

Hello everyone. I recently purchased a used Comptech Brembo brake kit and rebuilt it and wanted to share the info I found. Now I am sure many people are saying "Comptech made a big brake kit?" and the answer is yes they did and it actually upgrades the front and rear brakes. This kit was reviewed by a few magazines when it was released as you can see here.

http://www.superstreetonline.com/plu...e/viewall.html

So I purchased this kit used because I got it for a very good price and I really liked that is upgraded the rear rotors as well as the front. Little did I know the lack of information out there about this kit and the difficulty I would have finding replacement parts. I am hoping that is someone finds one of these kits and wants to try and run it this thread can help them not only replace parts but also update some things that are now out of date on it. I am going to try and break this all down in the following way.

Post 1: The kit I bought and the issues it had.
Post 2: Rebuilding the front calipers Parts and diy's used with links
Post 3: The Difficult parts where I got new ones made, approx prices, measurements etc.
Post 4: Original Comptech Insall Instructions
Post 5: Pictures as the kit sits now.

So lets get to it. Something to note. The front calipers, rotors, lines etc are the same as the Brembo GT kit that is still offered by Brembo. So you can use any of the parts I list to rebuild that kit as well.

Here is how the kit looked when it arrived (I new about the issues with it up front and knew it would be a project)

These were black when they came from Comptech. They were painted an odd dark blue (and not painted well) and the brake fuild had started to remove the paint during shipping.

Rebuilding the Brembo Calipers

As for DIY's for rebuilding the calipers I used this thread I found on Nasioc
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2103876

Something I will stress is to not split the calipers. From my searching it is advised to not split them as the 4 large allen bolts are stretch bolts and are not replaceable. While some have split them with no issues I did not want to take the chance.

Before

I tore down the calipers and sent them to powdercoat. When they came back they looked like this.

Now came reassembling the calipers.

As you can see the dust boots wouldn't sit flush. This was due to the powder coat so I have to sand it down and they sat flush again. For the new dust boots and piston seals I used stoptech parts. Each caliper has 2 large pistons and 2 small pistons. You will need 2 of each kit to rebuild both calipers.

Large Pistions are 40mm
http://store.zeckhausen.com/catalog/...oducts_id=6539

Small Pistons are 36mm
http://store.zeckhausen.com/catalog/...oducts_id=6537

I also used this assembly lube instead of brake fluid when rebuilding the calipers.
http://store.zeckhausen.com/catalog/...oducts_id=2967

Finally you have the Brembo logo. I decided to go with a high temp sticker instead of risking painting on my freshly powder coated calipers.

And the end result is

Ready to be installed.

Rotor Ring Hardware
The rings I had only had a few miles on them so I planned on using them. I did need to buy new hardware though. Brembo hardware is $99 a ring or you can buy Stoptech hardware for $50 a side. Easy choice in my book.

Post 3: The Difficult parts where I got new ones made, approx prices, measurements etc.

As I said there were several challenges with this kit in finding parts.

The rear rotors.

This was one of if not my major concern. A call to CT Engineering revealed that somewhere during the time Comptech went out of business and reopened as CT Engineering the plans for this brake kit were lost. That meant they could no longer source the rotors and they didn't have the plans for them. They did refer me to Coleman Racing who they said they had used to get some of these rotors made in the past.

http://www.colemanracing.com/Brakes-C94.aspx

I cannot stress enough how amazing these guys were to work with. I mailed them one of the rotors I had as a sample and they made a blueprint of the new part for me. All told it took about 3 weeks from sending them the part to the new ones being sent out. Cost per a rotor was $183+shipping. Definately not the cheapest rotor but then again it is a custom part. Here is the brand new rotor

I decided to paint the centers with high heat paint so they match the fronts.

My original plan with this was to simply buy a new one from Brembo which costs $330. You have to contact a Brembo dealer for this but that wasn't hard to find. However since I was already getting custom rotors from Coleman racing I sent them the hat as well to see if they could make me 2 new ones. This would be benificial for a few reasons. The first is I would have 2 brand new hats just in case the other was weak from use and age. The second is the Brembo hats have an inner lip to help center to rotor ring. The issue with this is it only works for Brembo rings which like all Brembo parts are insanely expensive so if you buy something else either the ring or the hat has to be milled down. The new hat wouldn't have this so I can run any rotor ring I want. Also as a bonus the custom hat was only $275+shipping instead of $330.

New vs old hat

And again some high heat paint

The Brake Lines

EDIT: Another member found this part number for replacement brake lines from goodridge.
Goodridge Braided Stainless Steel Lines: List: $59.99 each
P/N 903500
These should work since the current Brembo GT kit uses the same caliper as this kit. I have not tested it yet but it may be an option.

Here was a problem I didn't see coming. After spending a full day installing the brakes I found the front passengers side was leaking. It turned out one of the lines was leaking. The issue here is Brembo uses Goodridge for their brake lines but they have a different caliper fitting than OEM. I tried emailing the Brembo dealer I had contacted and they still haven't gotten back to me if they can get the line and since the fitting is different finding an off the shelf option was proving impossible. I contacted Goodridge as well and the rep was baffled by the line I sent him pictures of. He said the fittings were a model that hasn't been used for 6-7 years. At this point I was seriously worried I was going to be screwed by a brake line. The Goodridge rep was able to provide me with one very helpful piece of info and that was the specs on the 2 fittings on the line. This meant I could maybe order a custom line.

The Fitting Measurements are as follows
The 90° is a 3/8" - 24 female. The chassis fitting is a 10 x 1 mm thread pitch inverted flare female fitting

Armed with this info I searched for someone that could make me a brake line. I found a site called Rechargeman and it said he makes DOT lines and is in the Seattle WA area! I emailed him and gave him the specs. He assured me he could make the lines quickly and mail them to me since I couldn't drive the S anywhere. I had the new lines in hand in record time. This is who I used.

The new line is the plastic wrapped stainless so its a nice upgrade to the original none wrapped line. Its also slightly shorter which is fine since the original line had a ton of slack. No OEMish mounting parts but nothing a zip tie couldn't fix to the OEM bracket. I had to dremel out the Chassis mount a little but again not an issue. Leak fixed!

I hope this helps someone if they are having issues with either the Comptech Kit or the Brembo GT kit. Please feel free to ask questions and I will try and answer them as best I can.

I didn't say which pads i went with. I decided to buy stop tech pads for the front and rear just to have something in between oem and a track pad so I could get used to the brakes. I purchased the pads from zeckhausen racing just like the rebuild parts. Fronts were $83 and rears were $53. They vary a wide range of pads for the Brembo kit.

http://store.zeckhausen.com/catalog/...p?cPath=82_529

I have heard very good things about the Ferodo pads but I went with the stop techs since track days are a summer only thing and my car wasn't ready for them this year. Next year I plan on doing some track days as I will have better tires as well.

thanks is hard to find a listing for brake pads the ones I have dust very bad but man does it stop and lucky for me the kit is in good shape .how did the center hat get broken? did it come that way I ask so if there is something I need to do proactively to keep that from occurring that would be great and its nice to see the stop tech stuff interchanges
