Default Easiest way to get a modest drop and improved handling?

The suspension on my 2001 is stock at the moment. I'm looking for a 1 inch drop give or take 1/4 of an inch. Car has 121k miles FYI. What would be an affordable option that won't destroy my shocks/struts and compromise ride quality to much? I'm not interested in coilovers.

Eibach. Probably not a handling improvement, but it won't make it any worse either.

Eibach pro kit.

Your dampers are on borrowed time as is with mileage. Anticipate investing in coilovers anyway at some point if you plan on keeping the car. I did the pro kit on my 01 initially and enjoyed the 1" drop and firmer sharper handling. I didn't care for the rear end unsettled bounce after a wile though and within a couple years invested in coilovers.

From my understanding coilovers aren't legal and will result in failed inspection?!

No...that's not correct in most situations.

Swift Sport springs are another option for lowering without running overly stiff springs.
At that mileage, I would look into putting on lower mileage oem shocks or Koni yellows. If you are going to go through the hassle of swapping springs, might as well do it on shocks that aren't at the end of their life.

Coilovers will not make you fail Virginia inspection. Check their rules. It may just be that the car has to be a certain min/max height based on headlights, and the alignment may need to be within factory spec.

Very surprised no one has said Swift Spec Rs yet. The ride is great, 1.5" drop, and they were tuned on factory shocks.
