Ghost steering issue
 

Hello friends, i recently purchased my s2000 that ive been dreaming of for a long time now. I bought a beat with 200k miles looking to just fix up in my spare time. Definitely has a few issues but one that i cant quite figure out is this power steering issue. Im pretty mechanically inclined but im more familiar with traditional hydraulic ps systems. Long story short there is this kind of ghost steering bumping back and forth action happening. Ive looked through previous threads before creating this one but couldnt really find anything that described what im experiencing. ive attached 2 videos for a visual. It happens all the time its pretty scary driving the car. it does it while idling it does it while cruising. ive checked all the basics as far as internal leaks in the rack itself, bad tie rods, connectors to the module itself. Can anyone tell with high certainty what is wrong? i dont have any friends with an s2000 that i can just swap modules or other parts with as people indicated they did. Any help would be appreciated!

I do not currently have a code reader but there are no indicator lights on for eps... i tried the reset as in the other thread for the torque sensor but nothing..

Are there signs of the connector getting wet? I have heard that there were some cases of a coolant leak getting to the connector, causing this to occur sometimes. Pull the connector loose and see if there is any visible corrosion that may be causing a bad connection. It could be a bad sensor itself as well.

nope, the connectors look perfect. So i had the chance to lift the car and put it on jackstands, i started up the car and under no load on the stands the steering is perfect it doesnt drag it doesnt bump it honestly feels flawless. does that help reduce the probable causes?

update, i disconnected the plug at the torque sensor and drove the car with no power steering. Other than it obviously being alot stiffer, there was no jerking or bumping at all it was a relief just to be able to drive the car and not worry about swerving into the other lane. Im assuming that the rack itself is good seeing how theres no issue without power. This brings me to either the torque sensor or EPS module. How do i determine which is the issue as i dont want to spend money on both parts if only one of them is bad? thanks
