Help! With caliper issue

Default Help! With caliper issue

While installing EBC yellow pads, the front left caliper was hard to squeeze back in. I eventually got it, but then during the initial test run it was smoking more than I was comfortable with. So I pulled over, the passenger side was warm to the touch, but the driver side was very hot to the touch. I assume I need a new caliper on that left side but I'm wondering do you think I fried this brand new set of brake pads?

sounds like your caliper just needs to be rebuilt

the s2000 front brake caliper is a single piston slider system. A caliper rebuilt kit will come with a new piston seal, dust boot, grease and slider boots. You'll probably also want to replace the slider pins

it's pretty easy:
remove brake pads
remove caliper and undo brake line
plug brake line side so all the fluid does run out
poor out all the brake fluid from caliper
put a slim piece 1/2" thick wood in front of the caliper
KEEP YOUR FINGERS AND HANDS AWAY FROM THE PISTON
shoot compressed air into the banjo bolt hole
the piston will fly out and hit the wood
throw away the dust boot
use a pick and remove the o ring
grease new o-ring
seat dust boot on piston
lubricate piston and caliper with brake fluid
push the piston in evenly
seat dust boot
fill guide pin boot with grease and seat the guide pin boot
reinstall and bleed

Damn.... imean I can easily do all that, but, shouldn't I just buy a new oem one from advanced for $80? Or would the replacement be junk?


do you think I ruined these new yellow pads?

If it was hard to push in, likely the bore and piston are corroded past the point of home repair. It's a brake pad it's meant to get hot.I would not hesitate to use them unless they look like a piece of charcoal

Bed the pads after.

update...


new caliper on , the yellow paint that is oversprayed on the pad matrial was a little bubbily, but if people have boiled fluid and such before and still been ok then i think these are fine! i did take a flathead and knock out some material in the grove that seperates the pad... i think just wear - in material..


at 1/4 pedal push the all season tires are screaching,... so these things must really be working!!

Yeah I'd just buy a reman...easy swap. Caliper rebuilds can be a PITA if you dont have the right tools. This might come in handy if you ever did want to rebuild though: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-schwaben...BoCWJMQAvD_BwE

I dont know about you, but I always have a hell of a time to get the piston to seat right into the bore.
