I am prepping for my first track day. How can I optimize my setup?

Sears Point is a busy race track, there is little if any time to rest. No long straights to mention and tons of elevation changes. You need plenty of water, maybe some bananas and good sleep to get your moneys worth from the track day.
What the hell is tuition? Pay for an instructor?

Another +1 for getting an instructor. The AP1 is an extremely capable car in stock form, the only thing I would be sure to do is put DOT4 brake fluid in the car. Also make sure your oil filter is tight, lugs are torqued, and show up with a full tank of gas! I was really surprised how much gas I used at my first track day.

a) if you're borrowing a helmet, it most likely will not fit properly - a helmet that doesn't fit properly isn't protecting you
b) loaner helmets are usually nasty
c) if you're willing to spend all this money on your car, why aren't you willing to spend some money to protect your head?

My friends + their families are extremely into tracking their cars. In the past the helmets have been provided by the event that has been going on. I will be attending Infineon Raceway in March.

A plastic hairnet?
But seriously, just buy a helmet. A new helmet will conform to your head over time, as the padding wears. Imagine numerous people, with different shaped heads, wearing the same helmet. Not safe or sanitary.
I recommend picking up an HJC AR10-II, which you can get for just under $300. Awesome bang for the buck, and they have received very positive feedback from owners. I have one of these, and I love it. For reference, my motorcycle helmet is an $800 Shoei lid.
