Default ST40 Pad upgrade

I just recently installed my ST40 Stoptech kit, and coming from Project Mu HC+800 front pads, the "street performance" pads leave much to be desired. Has anyone had experience with the HC series to the point where they can refer me to an equivalent option for my caliper set up? PMU doesn't sell these pads for this application, its either Club Racers or NShitty400s.

It makes me sad because those were some great overall pads. A little noisy, lots of dust, but superb pads. Long life, great cold bite and last a long time under hard braking. They've survived 2 track days and 2 hard sessions through the snake in Malibu. My rotors died and I still have 6mms left on the pads.

Interested to see what you find out. I really like my hc+800 pads too. Does Hawk make an HP+ for the Stoptechs? From my limited experience the pads are very similar. PMUs might take a little more heat but in terms of braking and feel they were pretty close to the same to me

I was going to look into the DS2500 after I wore through the pads that come with the kit.
What problems did you run into with the StopTech pads? One of the locals here in Florida did a weekend at Sebring with them with no issues.

I'm sure they are good pads for what they are but the pmus were a but more aggressive. Cold but was more pronounced. These stop tech pads feel no different than one ap1 pads imo.

stoptech street performance pads suck ass, but they are cheap! Oem pads are actually pretty good pads but they just can't take heat.

what kind of driving do you do?

what you will want to do is look at pad graphs like this hawk one:
[attachment=68918:HawkPadChart.jpg]

the ones that project mu produces that show a relative comparison between bite, dust and longevity don't tell you squat and suck for comparison purposes.

since you have a BBK remember your brake temps won't be as crazy as the stock single piston slider so be careful that you don't get a compound that requires a lot of temp.

off the top of my head you'll probably want to consider:
Carbotech XP8 or AX6
Hawk HP+
Porterfield r4s

I'm using HC800+ on my ST40 calipers... They're great - perfect for street use, and since it's a BBK, they can stand up to track abuse decently well.

I got them from CSG (counter space garage) - special order when he did a large order of P-mu CRs and 999s.

I believe we have access to the HC+800 in this pad shape as well. Shoot me a PM if you still want to go this direction. Another fantastic option in the same category is the Endless MX72 compound.

Another pad to consider might be the Winmax W4. The Club Racers are excellent for the street and track as well in my opinion with less dust than the HC+800. And yes the MX72 or MXRS from Endless should be excellent if you are willing to pony up the cash.

Bumping this old thread since we are currently sitting on a mountain of HC+800 for ST-40 calipers. This is the last production run that will ever happen for this compound due to new copper regulations in Japan.
