Default Uneven wear front tires -- kits for more camber adjustment?

I just took my '06 in for service and front insides were gone. Mechanic says car has no front camber adjustment. He suggested either "slotting" mounting points of shocks or installing eccentric bolts to provide adjustment. I talked to a racing shop in Lafayette and they said there are kits to do this. Anyone tried it?

Moderator comment: This post has been split off of another thread (kind of an old one with similar but different topic). OP here referenced this post for historical info: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/261...f-front-tires/

S2000 has plenty of front camber adjustment from the factory unless you are going for some uber race set up. Sounds like your "mechanic" doesn't know what he is talking about.

Is your car lowered?

Even with a bit of a drop there should be some room to adjust camber. You said your front insides were worn so it sounds like you're already running some negative camber in the -2 or lower range. You should be able to decrease camber to fix this although a bit of negative camber up front is good for handling.

When I had my car lowered and aligned a month or so ago, I had to get it done a 2nd time because the first guy at Firestone said the same thing and set me up with an alignment that was not really working. He was talking about camber kits and stuff that most other cars need but the s2k has a pretty adjustable suspension from the factory. Of course, he was cool enough to let me know to come back when his buddy at the same location was around who knew how to adjust our suspensions right. The s2000 is known to have a pretty adjustable suspension but your toe, camber, and caster needs to be adjusted in the right order for this to work best.

Please read this link below and understand it to get a good idea on our suspensions. Its pretty technical so I don't remember all the details off hand but after reading it several times, I was able to help the shop and state my preferences for the alignment. Let me know if you want me to post my alignment settings for mostly road and the occasional weekly spirited driving. Hope this link helps:

Your s2k should have front camber adjustment from the factory. If you are looking for additional adjustment we do offer front adjustable ball joints from SPC that will allow you to adjust + or - 1.5 degrees.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I looked at other threads and folks suggested it's handling vs wear. I don't drive many miles or aggressively (apologies) and just want stock. Billman suggested toe-in for a better wear. I trust my mechanic, but I also value your hands-on experience. At this point I think I will skip mods til I can verify options. I had 14k+ miles min on the fronts. That will last me a long time. May bd cheaper to just replace. Drive safe.

If it's only the insides of the fronts that are worn, it's 95% likely it's wear from having toe-out. I've run -3 degree of camber on the front of my cars and the insides barely wear more than the rest of the tire. However, just 1/16" of toe out will highly accelerate the wear of the inside of the tires. What can happen is that over time, the springs start to sag a bit which reduces the front ride height. As the suspension lowers a bit, it causes the front tires to toe-out. Then you wear out the insides of the front tires. Anyway, I'd check the toe first.

You should get your car on an alignment rack and check the numbers. If the tires are wearing out very quickly then it will be a toe problem, not a camber problem.

Camber and toe are both wear angles, toe wear is scrub wear, so toe wear shows up as scalloped pattern.
